Abstract The main report updates a previous study by the Environment Agency. It estimates that the overall potential resource efficiency gains available to UK business, covering energy, waste and water, is of the order of £6.4 billion per annum. This figure covers only savings from measures requiring zero or low (payback within one year) financial investment. The estimated potential resource efficiency gain is disaggregated by sector and region for indicative purposes. Additional research on the business benefits of resource efficiency These studies build on research for Defra published in 2007 considering the potential financial gains available to UK business from low or no cost resource efficiency actions on energy, waste and water. This found that the total potential savings for business are in the order of £6.4 billion per annum. These papers draw out some further understanding from the earlier research, including around what these savings mean for carbon reduction aims and wider competitiveness of the economy
